Take your courage

If I would like to tell new students who will study during summer semester in U of I, I am going to tell what take your courage to them. It means their determination when they speak using only English or talk with native speaker. It might be a common advice or what it is most proper. However, how many people do like that? Probably, even though everybody already know the fact, it is too hard to carry out to them. I will tell them; Do not worry about mistakes or shame! Just do it. It will be a huge help to your English skills.

letter..

I would like to get a real letter for my birthday. Actually, I can not remember when I got a birthday letter at last as it was so long time ago. People have used many materials such as an e-mail, phone, and text message by cell phone instead of a real letter. It, of course, is more fast and easy. However, it also became more formal without sincerity. Sometimes, people have sent their friend a perfunctory form message for celebration of their birthday as I did. In other words, I believe that a real letter has a sincerity which would not feel from materials, and it will make me so happy.

computer..

Now, there are many wonderful inventions in the world. Some inventions are a great help to our life without compensation. Even we sometimes can not perceive the fact like that. In my case, I always appreciate to my computer. Actually, I use a computer almost time at home as people do. Most of people would agree that the computer offers much convenience to people like me. Especially, I need certainly the computer for my work, which is architecture. Past time, people, who worked an architectural firm, had used the real stuffs such as papers, pencils, real materials for planning, modeling, something like that. However, as time goes by, people have used the computer for work instead of real stuffs. Now, almost works in architecture are made by computer programs. Using computers make our works faster and easier. That is why I spent my almost time using computer while I leaned architecture in college. If we do not used computer, our works might become more hardly as past people did.

No fence...

I would like to recommend the campus of U.of I. to my friend. When I came here, buildings on the U. of I. campus were interesting to me. They didn't have any fence. That is the different part between Korean University and American University. For example, Korean Uni. have their own areas and boundaries by fence. Every building and place is enclosed by a boundary, Also, if anybody wants to visit through the entrance or gate, where they check all vehicles and visitors to admit in. On the other hand, American Uni. are mixed up with other buildings such as shops, houses, etc. I think that Korean Uni. is more authority than American Uni. but American Uni. is more friendly than Korean Uni. These differences might have both advantages and disadvantages. Also, if I tell my Korean friends this system, they certainly will be interested in this.

Grand Canyon..

Since I came here, I never been visited other place than Iowa in the America. So. I would like to write where I want to go later which are New York, California, Florida, etc... There are many nice place in the America. One of all, I really want to go is the Grand Canyon in Arizona which I knew long time ago. My friend said he could not belived what he saw and he felt like just a picture as it was a spectacluar scene. Why do I want to go there? I have a reason that I would like to get confidence from the great nature. I should prepare when I will face difficult situations in my life.

The pianist

When I think about my favorite movie, many movie come into my mind. One of all, I would like to talk about " The pianist" by Roman Polanski in 2002. This movie expressed a pitiful sight of the war and a peace by natural human susceptibility at the same time. This movie is about a great polish pianist, who is indifferent to war, in world war II. Although he lived painfully by war, he never gave up the passion of playing piano. His performance gave people, who were tired a war, a desire. I remembered the highlight scene that Szpilman, who is main character in the movie, played a piano at the risk of his death on the battlefield as commander of enemy troops ordered. And then, they could feel the peace of mind without aimed gun each others during the playing. That means the end of war. Szpilman continued to live until 2000. Above all, I could enter into their feeling, and deeply impressed by that scene. It was real story as well as nominated many awords. I really want to recommend you this movie.

I cannot breathe easy yet..

Many good people had given me to advice since I was younger. I can't remember, of course, all thing from the beginning. However, my life should be helped from people, who gived some advices, such as parents, professors, friends.
I remember, Last summer , when I attended to architecture workshop, one of the tutors said, " You are the best swimmer in Han-river, but somebody is trying to swim in the Pasific." Everyone had praised me and my duties at that time. So, I was confident of my ability in all my work. Probably, I might thought to highly of myself. I was shocked by his advice. So I decided to start all over again. It is the one of the reasons why I came in U.S. I got the advice to deep imperssion on my mind all the time. I cannot breathe easy yet!

If I will be famous....

The word famous has two different meanings. They are popular or infamous. The result of all situations might have similar results in spite of being completely opposite meanings. All famous people want to have privacy life, but it is difficult as others are concerned about their lives. Some people like to critigue famous people, but famous people do not like to be criticized. It is a very uncomfortable situation. For that reason, I do not want to become famous. I want a few true friends, but I do not want to have many fans.

my friend...

I don't used to talk to anybody even if I have a trouble. However, it was sometimes too hard to settle and might be beyond myself capacity. Then I talk to my friends as many people do. Especially, when I came to the Iowa, I usually talk to my roommate whose name is Chi Houn. I have known him about 10years since high school. He has been helped because I was not used to live here. He is very nice guy.

Perfume : The story of a Murderer

My favorite book is 'Perfume'. 'Perfume : The story of a Murderer' was written by german writrt Patrick Suskind in 1985. The novel explores the sense of scent and its relationship with the emotional meaning that scents may carry. Grenonille, A hero of the novel, was a person sensitive to odor. He abstacted women's scent to create the perfect perfume by murdering. What an interesting story! I read the novel in the high school. At that time,I shall never forget the impression made upon me. The plot was thrills and especially the ending shocked me. In 2006, it was turned into a feature film with same name. I also watched the film. therefore, the scene was not better than what I imagined. If I have chance, I should try to reread the novel.

About me...

My name is juyeong Kim, but I prefer to call me as J or J-kim.
I am from the south korea, and 27 years old in american.
I was born at July, and Korean used to say that people who are born at summer are sensitive to the cold.

I have parents and a sister, but sister was lived separately almost 10 years.
I will be graduated in Feb. at Architecture Design, but I am not able to attend the graduation ceremony because I already came here to study the English.
I like to do exercising and watching movie for vitalizing my self, and also music gives comport feeling and always be my friend.
Pictures gives considering from a different standpoint.
Architecture and Drawing are the tool to constitue me as an ideal person.

I like to drink alcohol, but not too much, and I hate the spicy food even though most Korean likes. On the other hand, sometimes, I need to have my own time as well.
I came to Iowa by my friend's recommend, and I am living with him, and a puppy.

I have a little difficult time to spend with strangers, coldness, and communication; however, I believe in my self and try to do my best to accomplish my goal.
